2011 Gear Up Day
In support of the Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer
Different Bikes West Van and Burnaby both recently hosted Ride to Conquer Cancer orientations and it was great to see the turn out and the interest in the ride! It was inspiring for us to see people so excited about embarking on this adventure and gearing up to fundraise for such a great cause!
On October 5th Canadians from coast to coast are being encouraged to wear a piece of cycling gear in support of the Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer benefiting the BC Cancer Foundation. Dubbed Gear Up Day the premise is simple – show that you care about the fight to conquer cancer by wearing something related to cycling. This is Vancouver so I’m sure a lot of you have spandex shorts, a cycling jersey, a helmet, gloves, etc. Their goal is to raise awareness about the Ride, the event that raised over $ 26 million for cancer research and care in BC in only three years, and to encourage people to register for the upcoming Ride.
The time for action is now: On average, 3,340 Canadians will be diagnosed with cancer every week and 1,470 Canadians will die of cancer every week – an absolutely untenable situation.
