Your Next cranks?

Posted: Apr 08 2012 in Gear

Last weekend I picked up my shiny new Race Face Next SL carbon cranks and got them mounted up on my Rocky Mountain Vertex RSL. But being a weight weenie nerd, I put them on the scales, along with the XTR 26/38 cranks I was replacing. Wow, what a payoff for the upgrade, a 158gm weight saving, more than 1/3 of a pound in a pair of cranks.

So far the ride experience has been every bit as good as the XTR, they feel very stiff (even while standing on the pedals under my 195 pound carcass), and the shifting has been very good. That 1/3 of a pound drop in weight shaves the Vertex down to a Twiggy-ish 19.5 pounds (8.86kgs). And it's nice to restore that classic Rocky/Race Face pairing on my plastic fantastic Vertex RSL.
